GUWAHATI: A major disaster at the Guwahati railway station was averted on Friday after an IED packed in gunny bag when it was being booked by Rail Mail Service at the station was detected. Bomb experts of special branch of Assam Police who were called in confirmed that it was an IED, probably with a timer device. `It would be around eight to 10 kg and its radius of impact would have been 100 meters,` an official said.
