Panaji: The government has issued a showcause notice to the fisheries director, Shamila Monteiro demanding the reason for delay in issuing radio-frequency identification (RFID) cards to fishermen. The notice signed by fisheries secretary Govind Jaiswal said that RFID cards were to be issued to fishermen before the season starts after the 61-day mandatory fishing ban. Fishing season opened on August 1 after the two month-long ban.
