In March, General Motors unloaded its Germany-based Opel division onto France´s PSA Peugeot-Citroën. Announced ahead of the Geneva Auto Show, the deal served as a glum reminder that American companies have historically had a difficult time selling cars in Europe. Much like the original Mini and the Citroën 2CV were completely out of tune with the needs of American motorists, American cars have typically been a round peg in a square hole on European roads.
