Laguna Beach center launches study to examine and treat killer whales remotely
(WorldNews Environment)

For the past few days, Dr. Hendrik Nollens has been at SeaWorld San Diego working to develop remote sampling techniques to research a group of 73 endangered killer whales swimming off the West Coast of the United States and Canada. With the help of SeaWorld trainers and their whales, Nollens, who heads up the Laguna Beach-based Pacific Marine Mammal Center’s conservation medicine and science research, is coming up with ways to accurately collect and measure particles that escape with each breathe through the large animal’s blowhole. Dr. Hendrik Nollens studies results from data collected on a 2019 killer whale research trip. NOAA permit #21348 (Photo courtesy of Hendrik Nollens)...
