In Kerala, the opposition parties` mass mobilisations for the local body elections violating COVID safety norms and the easing of restrictions could, it is feared, lead to a sharp rise in infections. THE number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala crossed the one lakh mark by September 11. It stood at 1,17,863 a week later. Of these, 32,709 were active cases. The official death toll was 480. The number of new cases was the highest on September 16 at 3,830. Experts predict that it will soon reach 5,000 a day. From September 7, at least 12 to 14 deaths were reported every day.
