SAN FRANCISCO — In the last days of a five-year, $90 million contract he signed in December, 2015, veteran starter Jeff Samardzija wondered if he had already thrown his last pitch for the San Francisco Giants. The right-hander hasn’t appeared in a game since giving up six runs in four innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 7 and has spent the last seven weeks attempting to prove he’s healthy enough to make an impact in the playoff race.
