U.S. Sanctions Iranian Judges, Prisons Following Execution Of Wrestler

The United States has imposed sanctions on an Iranian judge reportedly involved in the case of Navid Afkari, an Iranian wrestler who was executed earlier this month after being convicted of murder. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo formally announced the sanctions against Judge Sayyed Mahmoud Sadati in a statement on September 24. The statement said Sadati and Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz were reported to be involved in Afkari`s case.
