Torontonians are waking up to a messy Monday — and a reasonable excuse to be late for work — after a late fall storm delivered a wallop of ice and snow.Earlier, Environment Canada had called for a mixture of freezing rain and up to 10 cm of snowfall on Sunday into Monday. They now estimate a few more centimetres of snow will fall Monday before the skies open up for a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 0 C with a wind chill of -7 C.Despite the weather, the Toronto District School Board announced all buses will be running with expected delays.The Durham District School Board has cancelled buses in zones one through three, with zone four bus routes still operating. Schools remain open. In Halton, all schools are open and buses are operating in zones one and two, but cancelled in zone three.TTC spokesperson Hayley Walbman said all routes are holding up against the weather, although generally speaking, people should expect the road conditions to cause delays.There are also delays on Line 2 due to a fire at Dundas West Station, with no service between Keele and Ossington stations. Although the fire is now out, the TTC said there is no word yet on when service will be restored.The snow is causing some delays at Pearson. According to the Pearson airport website, 3.7 per cent of departures and 5.78 per cent of arrivals were cancelled as of 8:45 a.m. Travellers are advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. “We do know there are definitely lots of delays today, we’re still sort of catching up to yesterday as well,” Tori Gass, spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, said Monday. “We had more snow than expected overnight, so we’re very busy with snow removal.”The weather wreaked havoc on holiday festivities: Sunday’s Burlington and Mississauga Santa Claus parades were cancelled, with Burlington citing “unsafe weather conditions and the declaration of a significant weather ...
