The 2014 state championship trophy for the Santa Fe High School girls basketball team holds a rather lonely spot in the Demonettes’ case. It is joined only by a trophy from 1988, the only other time Santa Fe has celebrated a girls hoops title. Elmer Chavez led the Demonettes that season to a 30-2 record on the backs of Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage and Kayla Herrera. The next season, Chavez and Santa Fe went 16-12.
