OmniVisionīs new OV48C mobile sensor captures 48MP stills, 4K60 video
(Digital Photography Review)

Sensor manufacturer OmniVision has announced the OV48C, a new 48-megapixel image sensor designed with flagship smartphones in mind. The 1/1.3` OV48C is built on OmniVisionīs PureCel Plus stacked die technology, which uses a Buried Color Filter Array (BCFA), Deep Trench Isolation (DTI) and a composite metal grid (CMG) technology. The 48MP (8064 x 6048 pixel) sensor will have an on-chip four-cell color filter array and hardware remosaic, which OmniVision says will offer 48MP Bayer output or 8K video. When light is scarce, the sensor is capable of using near-pixel binning to output a 12MP still image or 4K video while `yielding a 2.4 micron-equivalent performance,ī according to OmniVision. The OV48C uses OmniVisionīs 4DC Half Shield phase detection autofocus technology. Below are a few of the possible output options from this sensor: 48MP at 15 frames per second (fps) 12MP with 4-cell binning at 60 fps 4K video at 60 fps with additional pixels for electronic image stabilization 1080p video at 240 fps 720p video at 360 fps OmniVision is showing off the new sensor at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. Currently, thereīs no information on when this sensor will make it to market or what manufacturers plan to use it.
