In Helsinki, the celebrations start with the laying of wreaths in front of the Heroes` Cross at the Hietaniemi Cemetery at 4:00 PM. Here is a description of the City`s events and services on 5 and 6 December. The Independence Day torch procession starts from the chapel at the Hietaniemi Cemetery around 5:00 PM and proceeds along the route Hietaniemenkatu - Arkadiankatu - Pohjoisesplanadi - Presidential Palace - Mariankatu - Aleksanterinkatu to the Senate Square.
