On Nov. 16, my mother turns 89 years old. Undoubtedly, she would not be happy with me if she knew I was publishing her age! In episode 3 of the recent Ken Burns documentary, `Country Music,` I was pleasantly surprised to see a picture from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry from 1949 which showed my mother, who worked then for WSM as Martha White to represent the name of one of there biggest sponsors, Martha White Flour Co. I had seen this picture before, but didn´t realize that Hank Williams was also posing on the back row. She had gone to work for WSM in the summer of 1949, doing a morning radio show each weekday and then performing on the Opry on Friday and Saturday. Fast forward to the...
