Toronto police have released a re-enactment video of a fatal hit-and-run in their efforts to find the motorist who killed 34-year-old Celeste Jones last summer. The collision took place Aug. 30, shortly after 10:20 p.m., on Sheppard Avenue East, between Abbotsfield Gate and Palmdale Drive. Jones was crossing Sheppard from the south to the north side to get to her bus stop when she was hit by a motorist speeding in the middle of the lane.“Celeste Jones is the victim of a traffic crime that could have happened to anybody,” Traffic Services Det. Brett Moore said in the video released Thursday.“Not a lot of is known about our suspect driver, but we have plenty of information, because of the help of the Centre for Forensic Sciences, about the suspect vehicle.”Through forensic evidence, police have identified the suspect vehicle as a dark coloured 2007-2009 Mitsubishi Lancer with a loud or modified muffler.Investigators say they found glass shards in Jones’s clothes and determined that the vehicle would have had a broken front windshield. The driver was last seen travelling east on Sheppard at Warden Avenue.“Celeste was special gift for us. She was like God’s gift to us,” Celeste’s father Clayton said in the police video. “And so for that driver I say, you need to do right. You need to do the proper thing and turn yourself in.Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect, particularly owners of body shops or wrecking yards, to contact police at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.Tom Yun is a breaking news reporter, working out of the Star`s radio room in Toronto.
