VANCOUVER—Police in B.C. have confirmed Manitoba officials have completed autopsies on the remains of a pair of fugitive teens charged with murder, and that the pair appear to have died by suicide by gunfire.Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, were charged with second-degree murder in the death of Vancouver botanist and UBC lecturer Leonard Dyck near Dease Lake, B.C. The pair were also named as suspects in the killings of American Chynna Deese and her Australian boyfriend, Lucas Fowler, who were found shot to death beside the Alaska Highway near the Liard Hot Springs last month.“Police can also confirm that two firearms were also located with the two deceased males and forensic analysis is underway in order to definitively confirm that these weapons are connected with the northern B.C. homicide investigations,†a statement released by B.C. RCMP Monday afternoon read. Following a two-week manhunt that took police from B.C. to the remote northern community of Gillam, Man., police last Wednesday announced that two bodies believed to be McLeod and Schmegelsky had been found in the “dense brush†near Gillam. The bodies were found about one kilometre away from several unidentified items police said were “directly linked†to the pair. Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy of the Manitoba RCMP called the discovery of those items “key†in narrowing the search for the men.
