CALGARYâThe RCMP in Manitoba says it has found two bodies believed to be Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky, two young men from British Columbia allegedly involved in the deaths of three people who have led police on a cross-country manhunt for more than two weeks.Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy of the Manitoba RCMP said the bodies were found on Wednesday morning. They were in deep brush near the shore of the Nelson River. An autopsy to formally identify the bodies and determine their cause of death will be done in Winnipeg on Thursday, but MacLatchy said sheâs confident they are McLeod, 19, and Schmegelsky, 18.âAt this time, we believe these are the bodies of the two suspects wanted in connection with the homicides in British Columbia,â she told reporters on Wednesday afternoon. The bodies were found by RCMP officers doing a foot search through dense brush at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, roughly eight kilometres from where a burned-out Toyota RAV4 used by the pair had been found in the Gillam area.A person at the McLeod home in Port Alberni, B.C., hung up their phone on a Star Vancouver reporter attempting to reach the family for comment on Wednesday afternoon. In McLeod and Schmegelskyâs hometown of Port Alberni, a city of about 17,000 people in the centre of Vancouver Island, the news came on a sunny day when many folks were gathered outside at the quay.Read more: âSeveral itemsâ linked to northern B.C. murder suspects found on Manitoba shoreline: RCMPB.C. fugitivesâ fate âanyoneâs guess,â says survival instructor, as divers wrap up Manitoba river search As manhunt drags on, Chynna Deeseâs family worries they might never get answers if suspects arenât caught aliveMany spoke of the case.Mud Edward, a 19-year-old Port Alberni local who didnât know Schmegelsky or McLeod but had seen them around, said he wasnât surprised to hear their bodies were believed to be fou ...
