A heat warning is in effect for Toronto as Environment Canada warns of sweltering temperatures on Saturday.Environment Canada expects temperatures in Toronto and the GTA to hit a high of 34 C on Saturday, but with the humidex it’s expected to feel closer to 44 C.The weather is predicted to remain mostly cloudy with a humidity of 81 per cent throughout the day. Meanwhile, the humidex will remain in the 40s until roughly 9 pm, but the nighttime will offer little relief, with the humidex expected to remain in the 30s until early Sunday morning. The sweltering temperatures are part of an ongoing heatwave affecting cities across the east coast and midwest, including New York City, Washington D.C. and Boston, affecting about 200 million people.Toronto Public Health is advising Torontonians to take precautions, stay hydrated and consider rescheduling outdoor activities to avoid heat-induced illness. Earlier in July, Toronto Public Health announced it would no longer be operating cooling stations in the city. Instead, they’re directing residents to a “relief network” of 270 cool spaces, including libraries, community centres and malls. The City of Toronto temporarily closed most public beaches as a result of potential E. coli risks. The only beaches open Saturday are Gibraltar Point, Centre Island, Woodbine Beach Park and Kew-Balmy.
