Environment Canada issued a heat warning for Toronto on Friday morning, with the high temperatures to remain until Saturday. The forecast is for a high of 31 C Friday, feeling more like 41 with the humidity. The agency also issued a special weather statement warning of local heavy downpours.“Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop and move slowly eastward across portions of the regions this afternoon,” the agency said in a statement. “Local rainfall amounts of up to 50 millimetres may occur. Wind gusts to 80 km/h are also possible.”“These storms are very localized and some places will see no rain at all,” the agency added. The hot weather will continue into Saturday with a high of 29 C and a humidex of 39 C. The UV index is also expected to be at 9. It could also be another wet day, as there will also be a 60 per cent chance of showers in the early morning and 40 per cent chance in the late afternoon.Instead of opening seven emergency cooling centres as it has previously done during extremely hot weather, the City of Toronto is offering 270 air-conditioned locations as a part of its Heat Relief Network that include civic centres, community centres, libraries, and malls. Things will start to cool down as Saturday night approaches. Environment Canada is expecting a low of 15 C with cloudy periods and a 30 per cent chance of showers. To close off the weekend, Sunday is expected to be sunny with a much more reasonable high of 25 C and a low of 14 C on Sunday night.Tom Yun is a breaking news reporter, working out of the Star`s radio room in Toronto.
