The Italian government gave the interior ministry, led by Matteo Salvini, the power to impose and demand stiff fines on charities who run rescue ships to bring migrants into port without prior authorization on Tuesday, according to Deutsche Welle. The decree would force non-governmental organizations to pay between EUR10,000 and EUR50,000 ($11,327 - $56,638) for transporting rescued migrants to Italian ports.
