Canadian among 5 killed in Honduras plane crash

Five people, including a Canadian, are dead after a plane crashed into the sea in Honduras on Saturday.Several media outlets reported that shortly after taking off from an island off the Atlantic coast of the Latin American country, the plane crashed nearby in the Caribbean Sea, killing five people, including Americans.Global Affairs Canada spokesperson Stefano Maron confirmed in an emailed statement on Sunday that one of the victims was a Canadian.“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian citizen who died in a tragic plane crash in Roatán Islands, Honduras,� Maron wrote.“Canadian consular officials in Tegucigalpa, Honduras are in contact with local authorities and are providing consular assistance to the family of the victim.�Maron declined to provide further information on the victim, citing provisions under the Privacy Act.Ilya Bañares is a breaking news reporter, working out of the Star’s radio room in Toronto.
