Greenhouse gas emissions from urban ponds as high as emissions from 200,000 cars

In addition to rivers, lakes and ditches, urban ponds also make a major contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Bubbles containing the greenhouse gas methane rise to the surface of these ponds, a phenomenon that will continue to increase as temperatures rise. Researchers from Radboud University publish these findings in the scientific journal Limnology and Oceanography. Due to climate change and rising temperatures, an increasing number of methane bubbles are being formed throughout the world.
