`50% convicts in Karnataka jails aged 18-30 years`

BENGALURU: Karnataka had the third highest incidence of youngsters landing behind bars in 2016 and a whopping 50.7% of the convicts in the state´s jails were in the age group of 18-30 years. This is as per Prison Statistics in India 2016, an annual report released recently by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB). Only Mizoram (57%) and Chandigarh (53%) were ahead of Karnataka in this regard. The 102 prisons across Karnataka housed 4,110 convicts, 2,083 of whom were in the 18-30 age group.
