The woman accused of throwing a chair and other items off a downtown Toronto highrise balcony has turned herself in to police. The video, which was widely shared online, shows an unidentified woman pick up a folding chair and toss it over the rail hundreds of feet in the air. The video follows the chair as it hurtles towards the busy expressway and ends just before it hits the ground. The short video clip appears to have been filmed by a second person, who does not appear on screen.Toronto police spokesperson David Hopkinson said on Monday he was “outraged” at the incident. “Anybody could’ve been walking underneath,” he said, adding if someone was hit, they could have suffered “catastrophic” injuries. The woman surrendered around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning to Toronto police’s 52 Division. The woman will have a chance to tell her side of the story before police decide whether to charge her, Hopkinson said.Hopkinson told the Star previously that her punishment could be “unbelievably serious” if she was intending to strike someone below.Even if it was a random act, the woman could still be charged with mischief endangering life, Hopkinson said. A conviction for mischief endangering life could result in prison time, he said, noting the gravity of the penalty would depend on intent.Jack Hauen is a breaking news reporter, working out of the Star`s radio room in Toronto.
