After a Tuesday full of snow, freezing rain and ice, Toronto is in for a slightly more manageable Wednesday.Environment Canada’s winter storm warning for the city ended just after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, but it was replaced shortly after by a special weather statement alerting residents to strong winds.Gusts up to 70 km/h are expected across Southern Ontario. Combined with the ice buildup from yesterday’s freezing rain, tree branches might break, Environment Canada warned, possibly resulting in power outages in the region. The wind is expected to die down over the morning.After a buildup of ice on streetcar wires caused some backups on the TTC last night, things are back to normal, for the most part. Regular service on subway Line 3 has resumed, but buses are currently running instead of streetcars along the 512 St. Clair route.The UP Express is back to operating on a 15 minute schedule as opposed to 30 minutes.Many residents were without power for parts of the night, but the affected areas are now confined to about 60 customers, Toronto Hydro said. The company promised to address those outages today.“We have additional crews today and are closely monitoring the weather including winds and ice accumulation,” spokesperson Mallory Cunnington said in an email. “If you see any downed power lines, stay back at least 10 metres, which is the length of a school bus, and report it immediately to 416-542-8000.”There are no school closures today in the GTA, though some bus routes are still affected.All Toronto public and Catholic buses are running, though both boards warned of potential delays on some routes; Durham public and Catholic buses in zones 1, 2 and 3 are cancelled; and all public and Catholic school buses are cancelled in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga.Wind chill temperatures will bottom out at -15 C around 5 p.m., with a high of -9 in the early morning.
