Toronto police are calling for help identifying a suspect in security video of a tense confrontation that led to a late-night assault in a Parkdale restaurant last month.The incident, which left a 44-year-old man hospitalized, occurred inside a restaurant in the area of Lansdowne Ave. and Queen St. shortly after 1 a.m. on Nov. 12. In an earlier news release, police said the 44-year-old had entered the restaurant and made hostile remarks towards a male customer before that customer stood up and knocked him unconscious with a punch.Police earlier released two still images of a suspect in the assault, a white man wearing a grey hoodie and a baseball hat. The video released Wednesday reveals the involvement of a third person. In the footage, a man in a black coat can be seen standing in the doorway of the restaurant. A man in a grey hoodie walks up to him and appears to engage him in conversation. A third person in a long brown coat then steps in front of the man in grey, also appearing to address man in the doorway. The security footage does not include audio.The man in black then steps toward the other two people. The person in the brown coat backs up into the man in grey, then steps to the side. The two men then engage in what appears to be heated conversation, complete with gesturing and pointing. Suddenly, the interaction explodes into violence: The man in black appears to turn and point at the person in the long coat, then the man in grey punches him directly in the face, sending him to the floor. He remains there, motionless, for the rest of the video. The video cuts at this point. Police earlier said the suspect stomped on the unconscious man’s body, but this is not shown in the video.The footage ends as a restaurant employee confronts the man in grey, appearing to demand he leave.
