Bill Gates has a problem, and it´s a serious one: how to make sure everyone has access to a toilet. For that to happen, the toilet of today will need to be reinvented, because in poor, far-flung areas you can´t expect water to flow like it does in your bathroom. Nor can you expect the intricate network of pipes that carry the sewage to treatment plants. A whopping 39% of urban Indian respondents in a 2016 NSSO survey said they cannot use toilets because of insufficient water. Among rural respondents, 20% made a similar complaint.
