Ramdas Athawale wants SC/ST, OBC quota hiked to 75%

RANCHI : Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Friday called for an increase in caste-based reservation from the existing 50% to 75% for SC/ST and OBCs, contrary to the 50% ceiling fixed by the Supreme Court. `While I respect the Supreme Court, at the same time, Parliament is supreme to all as laws are made there. I request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the reservation to 75% to accommodate the demands coming from different communities like the Patels in Gujarat, Thakurs in Uttar Pradesh.
