A water main has burst near the mainland operations of Billy Bishop Airport, leaving the area flooded and forcing closures on the Toronto Islands.While drilling, a contract worker accidentally went through the water main at Queens Quay W. and Eireann Quay, damaging the piping that delivers water to the airport and the Toronto Islands, Toronto Water said in an emailed statement. Due to the break, washrooms in the lounges have been affected, meaning those in the airport can’t use the facilities.The TDSB notified parents in an audio recording that the Island Public School will be closing due to the water outage, and children will be bused to Nelson Mandela Park Public School on the mainland, at 440 Shuter St.Parents have the option to pick up their children at Jack Layton Ferry Terminal between 1:30 and 2 p.m., the recording said.“Unfortunately we have received no confirmation as to when water will be restored,” it said.The Toronto Yacht Club also tweeted it has closed its Island Clubhouse for the day since there is currently no running water.The airport has brought in portable toilets and washrooms for flyers, while City of Toronto crews are working at the scene of the break. Toronto Police is on scene, helping conduct traffic and the airport is advising people take extra time to arrive for flights.Tunnel and ferry services have not been impacted, nor have flights been delayed.
