Fabio Aru`s crash during stage 17 of the Vuelta a Espana was apparently sparked by a blocked chain, with the UAE Team Emirates rider losing control of his bike at 70kph as he tried to pull his chain back onto the 12 sprocket. Aru landed on his back and seemed stunned after the crash. When he got up he vented his anger by shouting repeatedly about his bike to his UAE Team Emirates staff and said the gears had locked up. He eventually got going again on a new bike and finished the stage with his shorts in shreds.
