Morocco Reinstates Compulsory Military Service For Men, Women Under 25

Morocco`s ministerial council approved a draft law on Monday which reinstates compulsory military service for both young and women, the first time such a law would be in place for the country since 2006, according to Reuters. The Royal Cabinet released a statement which said: `Female and male citizens aged between 19 and 25 years are obliged to do military service for 12 months.` Royal Palace spokesman Abdelhak Lamrini said the drafted law would go into effect once it is published in the official bulletin and would establish exemptions along with the rights and responsibilities of military service participants. `The military service aims to promote patriotism among the young, within the...
