Blame China for recycling cost increase

    Recycling costs more for some people in the Hazleton area now that China imports fewer reusable materials. Customers who hire County Waste as a private hauler in places like Conyngham, Sugarloaf Twp. and Mountain Top started paying $5 more this month if they wanted to continue curbside recycling. In a letter dated `June 2018` announcing the price increase, which was included with August bills, County Waste owner Scott Earl didn´t mention China but said recycling programs in the United States have come under fire this year and the company is paying to dispose of materials it previously sold to pay for recycling.
