But a new breed of car clubs is going one step further - by only renting out electric cars powered by a rechargeable battery.Clubs, such as Zipcar, have been around since 2000, and the concept is relatively simple. Members pay an annual or monthly fee and hire cars by the hour. In return, they avoid the costs associated with buying and running a car such as tax, insurance and maintenance.
