A woman has been arrested after she was spotted on top of a construction crane early Thursday morning, Toronto police say. Police and fire fighters received the call shortly after 6:30 a.m. in the area of Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Dan Leckie Way. The woman was inside the crane’s cab.More than two hours later, she was brought down in handcuffs.Toronto fire District Chief William Bygrave told reporters the woman is believed to be in her 20s. “She was about 140 to 150 feet up with no safety equipment, no harness, so she was in danger,” he said. Bygrave said that she was seen doing some damage to the crane, but didn’t specify what.He said officials spent about an hour to convince her to come down. She was taken away in a police car and taken to hospital for evaluation after she was brought down the steps. This incident follows a crane climber who was dramatically rescued from another downtown Toronto crane on April 26, 2017.Marisa Lazo, 23, received an absolute discharge late in court last December after pleading guilty to two counts of mischief. She said she was struggling with mental health and abusing alcohol, which made her decide impulsively to climb the crane that night.Bygrave said incidents of people climbing construction cranes across Toronto aren’t common, but not uncommon either. The eastbound Gardiner curb lane and the Spadina exit lane were closed for some time, but have since reopened, police say. With files from Claire FloodyClare Rayment is a breaking news reporter, working out of the Star`s radio room in Toronto.
