Kerala reels from relentless rains; toll reaches 79

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is living through its worst floods in 94 years. The shutters of 35 dams, including that of Mullaperiyar, have been opened. All 55 hydro-electric and 22 irrigation dams are full and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has advised those living downstream to move to safer areas. Rivers are overflowing and wildly. To add to the woes, landslides are being reported from many parts of the state. Now, the Army, Airforce, Coast Guard along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been asked to step in with additional personnel.
