Not long after the Mariners pulled off a four-game road sweep of the first-place Astros on Sunday, the A`s overcame a late-inning scare to close out a series-clinching victory in Anaheim and pull within 2 1/2 games of the division lead. Jed Lowrie collected his 1,000th career hit with a double in the first inning and added a two-run homer, his 18th, extending his career-high. Francisco Arcia clobbered his third homer in his 11th Major League game, bringing his slugging percentage to .533. Both teams` bullpens struggled as 14 pitchers saw time on the mound, but Blake Treinen quelled the Angels` late rally with a perfect ninth to earn his 30th save.
