A 16-year-old boy has died after trying to help a mother and son in distress at Woodbine Beach, police say.The pair had gone into the water at the west end of the beach, which is full of rocks and buoys, and `became uncomfortable`, police said.After they called for help, multiple people went into the water to help them, including the teenage boy.Emergency services, including police, firefighters, paramedics and the coast guard, were called about 2:40 p.m. and had to help several people out of the water.The teen boy was found without vital signs and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.A woman was also injured and taken to a local hospital. Two others were assessed at the scene, paramedics said.Police roped off a sizable portion of the beach with yellow tape. At least six boats and a helicopter were visible from the beach searching the water for swimmers.First responders continued searching until about 4:30. Pegg said there was "some confusion" as to whether they were still searching for someone in water until police were able to confirm everyone was accounted for.TOP STORIES. "There`s a lot of people here, of course, and that produces a lot of confusion and a lot of conflicting witness reports. People are obviously upset and excited, so it takes a little bit of time to be able to decipher that and get good facts."Pegg said that water rescues are very challenging."They`re challenging in any condition, but it`s breezy today, you can see the waves," Pegg said. "These are really, really tough operations. They`re physically demanding ... and they`re very, very stressful environments as well."Const.
