HC to West Bengal: Let all `reserve´ doctors go for PG studies

KOLKATA: The Calcutta high court on Friday directed the West Bengal government to release 105 `trainee reserve` doctors - serving in state-run hospitals - for postgraduate studies, dealing a blow to the state government´s efforts to keep the public healthcare system up and running. Graduates from state-run medical colleges, who qualify for postgraduate courses after completing three years of compulsory service in state-run hospitals, are called trainee reserves; typically, they comprise 10% of the pool of government doctors.
