Unscheduled power cuts plague villages near Chennai

CHENNAI: Frequent, unscheduled power cuts over the past two years have made life miserable for residents of at least a dozen village panchayats near Periyapalayam, situated 40km from Chennai. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) officials however claim that the frequency of power cuts has come down in the past one week. Former president of Panayancheri village panchayat C Markandan said, `On any given day, we go without power supply for two to four hours. Officials have not acted despite repeated complaints.
