Latest update: Monday 23 July, 4.30pm Following the fire at 101 Australia Street, Newtown, Inner West Council engaged specialist contractors and a licensed asbestos assessor to undertake decontamination measures to remove asbestos from the impacted public domain. An asbestos clearance certificate for the public domain was obtained prior to reopening public access to the area. Council has since received a report of fragments of asbestos being found in the area. Council contractors immediately attended the site and removed the material from the roadway to ensure public safety.
