Smart meters might not deliver expected benefits to consumers, report warns

The roll-out of smart meters is at risk of going over budget and past its deadline and must be reviewed immediately, a group of MPs and peers has said. The £11 billion project to place 53 million of the devices in 30 million homes and small businesses by 2020 has been `plagued by repeated delays and cost increases`, the head of the British Infrastructure Group of Parliamentarians (BIG) said.
