A former GTA resident has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in Italy after being convicted of Mafia-related corruption charges.Antonio Coluccio, 48, was charged in Italy in 2014 with extortion and Mafia association after a sweeping series of anti-corruption arrests in Southern Italy.Some of the investigation involved wiretaps on phone calls between Canada and Italy, targeting the Commisso crime clan of Siderno in southern Italy.Coluccio’s two older brothers, Giuseppe and Salvatore, are already in prison in Italy on Mafia-related charges.The three brothers all lived in the GTA in the early 2000s.Giuseppe Coluccio, 52, lived in a luxury condo on the Toronto waterfront under the name of “Giuseppe Scarfo,” making daily visits to the Woodbridge area in his yellow Ferrari and silver Maserati.Salvatore Coluccio, 50, lived in Richmond Hill.Antonio Coluccio was one of 29 people named in arrest warrants in a sweeping crackdown on the ’Ndrangheta crime group in Southern Italy in September 2014.Authorities said they are part of the Commisso crime family based in southern Italy.Prosecutors said the Commisso crime family has branches in the GTA and the Netherlands.The crackdown alleged the ‘Ndrangheta crime group skimmed money from public works contracts and forced butchers to buy beef from Mafia-connected farms.Antonio Coluccio’s trial was in Locri, in the province of Reggio Calabira, the toe of Italy’s boot.He was also banned for life from holding public office.Antonio Coluccio is an Italian national who had sought landed status after settling in Richmond Hill. He was deported after the federal government alleged he was a member of the ‘Ndrangheta crime organization.He originally challenged the federal allegation, saying his family ties made it tough to keep a distance from accused criminals.He and his two brothers came in the GTA in 2005.Their father Vincenzo was earlier murdered during a Mafia feud in the family’s h ...
