To artist Alberto Mijangos, 159 was more than a number it was a symbol. It signified the beginning (1), middle (5), and end (9) of life, and he consistently incorporated the number into his artwork, which dealt with social and spiritual issues. Now, San Antonio residents and visitors can experience and journey through the life and work of Mijangos in the first-ever comprehensive retrospective of the artist in a new exhibit at Centro de Artes. Alberto Mijangos: 159 is presented by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture, and curated by Teresa Eckmann, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The exhibit, free and open to the community, opened Thursday, July 12, 2018 with a public reception from 6-9 p.m. and runs through Sunday, November 11, 2018. Centro de Artes Ga
