Six-year-old boy dies after suspected fall from Hamilton balcony

Hamilton police are investigating the sudden death of a six-year-old boy found on the ground outside a central city apartment building where he lived with his family.The boy lived on the sixth floor of 50 Young St., known as the Villa Marie II apartment building, and is believed to have been on the balcony before his death.Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a medical call at the Corktown neighbourhood apartment building and found the six-year-old boy outside, said Const. Jerome Stewart.Police have not spoken with any witnesses who directly saw the boy fall, so detectives continue to investigate exactly what happened. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.There were family members home at the time of his death, Stewart said.An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, where police hope to get more clarity on the cause of death.On Wednesday night forensic investigators were on scene at the apartment bound by Young, John, and Hughson Sts., as well as Forest Ave. Police expect to remain at the scene Thursday.The boy’s death is being investigated by the Central Criminal Investigation Division at 905-546-4861.
