Two people have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting and a collision near Spadina and Dupont in the Annex Monday night.Toronto police said they received calls about a shooting in the area of Madison and Bernard Aves. around 9:45 p.m. Police spokesperson Katrina Arrogante said calls were received around the same time about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area.Police are still looking into whether the incidents are related. They said the pedestrian may have been struck by a vehicle fleeing the area of the shooting.Paramedics said both the shooting victim and the pedestrian struck by the vehicle were rushed to the hospital. Police said the shooting victim sustained serious upper body injuries, but was conscious and breathing. A witness said that the victim was found lying on the pavement, bleeding from the chest.The injuries of the person hit by a vehicle were not known. Police have found an abandoned vehicle in a nearby location, as well as a firearm. They said the vehicle in the collision hit a tree as well as the pedestrian. They also said two occupants of the vehicle ran south toward an alley. Police arrested one man around 10:30 p.m., but no charges have been laid. They are still searching for the other occupant of the vehicle, who police said they believe is a woman.Madison Ave. between Dupont St. and Bernard Ave. is closed while police investigate, and a witness to the incident said that police have set up a tape perimeter in the intersection and on Bernard Ave. by Huron St.Clare Rayment is a breaking news reporter, working out of the Star`s radio room in Toronto.
