Toronto cyclists are set to hold a ghost bike ride in memory of Dalia Chako on Wednesday. The 58-year-old Toronto grandmother was killed by a flatbed truck in the Annex last week.Her memorial ride, planned for Wednesday at 6 p.m., will be the third of four planned in short succession amid a wave of deaths on GTA streets. Chako was hit and killed while riding her bike at Bloor St. W. and St. George St. She leaves behind a child and grandchild. The driver remained at the scene. Police have called for security or dash camera footage of the incident.The ghost ride is organized by Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists, a local group which honours killed cyclists. Chako’s son, Skylor Brummans, wrote that he will attend. “I have decided to use my mothers death as an opportunity to raise awareness for safer streets for cyclists in Toronto and also here in the United States,” Brummans wrote on a memorial site for Chako. Wednesday’s ghost ride will start at Matt Cohen park, at the intersection of Bloor St. W. and Spadina Ave., before riding to the crash site 300 metres away on Bloor.On Friday, cyclists honoured Jonas Mitchell, 36, who died in hospital this month after he was hit on Lake Shore Blvd. in May. On Sunday, riders honoured Aaron Rankine-Wright, 19, who was hit by a car and stabbed after leaving his apartment on June 9. Two boys, aged 17 and 13, have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
