Toronto Fire crews battling 2-alarm fire in Little Italy, second of the day

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in a restaurant in Little Italy on Sunday afternoon.Fire crews were called just after 2 p.m. to the area of College St. and Grace St., after heavy black smoke was seen billowing out of a restaurant in a two-storey building.District Chief Stephan Powell said most of the fire has been knocked down. At least 45 firefighters were at the scene.“It is an extremely difficult job for firefighters who are not only dealing with the fire but also with the heat of the day,� said Powell.Toronto police said people residing in apartments on the second floor were evacuated. No injuries have been reported.The intersection was closed as part of the Taste of Little Italy celebration this weekend.This was the second two-alarm fire on Sunday. Fire crews knocked down an apartment blaze in Scarborough around 11 a.m. A woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition after she was pulled out from fire.
