Toronto police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a vehicle of interest in connection to the shooting in Scarborough on Thursday that left two girls injured.Emergency services were called just after 5 p.m. near McCowan Rd. and Alton Towers Circle, near McNicoll Ave., after a man opened fire at a playground.Police said there were 11 children in the park when the shooting happened. Two girls, ages 5 and 9, were seriously injured. Paramedics said the younger child was shot in the abdomen and the older girl was shot in the ankle.Both victims were rushed to Sick Kids hospital and underwent surgeries. Police said both girls are in stable condition.One man, who was also at the park at the time of shooting, may have been the intended target, police said. He has been identified as a person of interest in the investigation.Investigators are looking for a vehicle of interest described as a black, four-door, 2007-2011 Nissan Versa sedan. Police are looking for two suspects who were in a car at the time — one driver and one male shooter who approached the park by foot and then escaped with the driver.Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Chief Mark Saunders said the suspects were “cowards” for targeting a children’s playground.“This act is despicable, and rest assured that we’ll put adequate resources to resolve this one,” said Saunders.Mayor John Tory said in a statement Thursday night that the shooting was “a totally unacceptable act of gun violence.”“I cannot imagine the anguish the family and friends of the two girls shot while playing in a park are experiencing tonight.
