A Scarborough neighbourhood is in shock after two girls, aged five and nine, were shot at a playground Thursday afternoon.The two were taken by ambulance to SickKids Hospital.The five-year-old is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery, while the nine-year old sustained serious injuries and will undergo surgery shortly.Toronto paramedics received a call around 5 p.m. about a shooting at Alton Towers Circle, in the area of McCowan Rd. and McNicoll Ave.By 8 p.m. Wednesday, Alton Towers Circle was crowded with police cars and incident tape. Residents in the neighbourhood of townhomes stood on their porches and driveways to watch the commotion.Toronto Police chief Mark Saunders was on scene. “Obviously, these two young girls are not the intended target. Some cowards came into this neighbourhood and opened fire into a playground,” Saunders told reporters. “We will be taking aggressive action towards resolving this particular investigation.“… this act is despicable, and rest assured that we’ll put adequate resources to resolve this one,” Saunders said. Imran Yasar, a father of three, lives in the neighbourhood. He came home to a street filled with police cars. “I feel very sad,” Yasar said. He’s lived in the area for eight years. “We’ve never had any incident like (this).”The parking lot at 80 Alton Towers was entirely roped off. Cars were still parked within the boundaries of the yellow caution tape. Police are looking for a suspect with a firearm, last seen driving out of the area.TPS spokesperson Meaghan Gray said that police have some prelimary information about possible suspects, but declined to release any details. Police are canvassing the neighbourhood for video.Police are asking anyone with information to call 416-808-2222 or Crime Stoppers.With files from Tamar Harris
