Denmark voted on Thursday to join several other European countries in banning garments that cover the face, including Islamic veils, in a decision which has been condemned by a number of human rights organizations as `neither necessary nor proportionate,` according to The Guardian. Danish lawmakers voted 75-30 with 74 absentees to approve the law presented by the center-right governing coalition. The government said the law does not ban headscarves, turbans, or the traditional Jewish skull cap and was not designed to be aimed at any particular religions.
