The 2,000 royal-watchers who packed into Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre early Saturday morning may not have had an in-person view as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed, but they celebrated all the same.Dressed in their wedding best, the crowd oohed for Harry, cheered for Meghan and let out a collective “awh” for the young pageboys and bridesmaids as they watched a livestream broadcast of the ceremony on a big screen at the local theatre named for the groom’s late mother. And when the newly married Duke and Duchess of Sussex had their first public kiss as a married couple, the audience erupted in applause.“It’s like a Cinderella story come true,” said Natasha Walsh, who came to watch the wedding because “in a world that’s full of tragedy right now, and sadness, this is something to look forward to.“It’s a celebration of something positive.”The crowd had braved the rain in lines outside the King St. W. theatre long before the doors opened at 5:30 a.m. Women were dressed in their wedding best — gowns, cocktail dresses and the ever-present fascinators — while the men were decked out in suits and ties. Many carried small British flags.Theatre owner David Mirvish called the morning “a joyous event.”“I don’t usually get up this early in the morning — I’m usually a night bird because the theatre works at night — but this was worth it,” Mirvish said. “This was a very special moment. I’m glad that 2,000 people shared it with us.”Margaret Bush said she loves “anything to do with the royal family.“Especially Harry and Meghan,” Bush added. “They’re a lovely couple.”Bush wore a dress and fascinator to the viewing party, which she called an “adventure.”“I guess it’s the British thing to do, going to weddings and dressing the part,” she said.Meghan’s dres ...
