Graphene changes elastic properties depending on applied force

A group of scientists, including specialists from Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITF), has described a universal characteristic in which many unique graphene properties are `hidden.` Abnormal graphene behavior can be fully characterised by the Poisson ratio, which determines a material`s capability to shrink or extend in a transverse dimension. Moreover,scientists found key factors that can influence this characteristic. The results are published in Physical Review B.
